Summary
The 5 days Uganda primate safari takes visitors to two mighty Uganda national parks i.e. Kibale forest national park and Bwindi Impenetrable national park. In Kibale forest, visitors embark on chimp trekking and nature walk in Bigodi wetlands for the best adventure of birds and butterflies.

In Bwindi impenetrable national park, it’s a prime activity of trekking the giant apes, the mountain gorillas accompanied by the Batwa community walk to encounter one of the most exciting traditional cultures of Uganda through their music, dance and drama.

This adventure alsoadds to your bucket list more unique activities like the Nakayima spiritual tree, the AmabeeraGaNyinaMwiru caves, Equator experience and Igongo cultural center.

This 5 days Uganda primate safari takes visitors to the endangered apes and primates of the world.

Day 1
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale forest national park

After an early morning breakfast, embark on a transfer to Kibale forest national park via Mubende with stopover at the Nakayima spiritual tree. Meet the story teller about the Buganda culture to interpret the secrets that are hidden behind this tree.

After that brief stopover, proceed to Fort portal via the spectacular tea plantations and the beautiful Uganda countryside homesteads.

Arrive in Fort Portal at around midday, have lunch in the town and in the afternoon, continue to adventure the “Amabeera ga nyina mwiru” caves. Enjoy the traditional history about the Bachwezi people, watching the stalagmite and Stalactite rocks, the scenic landscape among other attributes of the area. After that cultural interaction, proceed to the lodge in the evening to check in, dinner and overnight stay at Kyaninga lodge, Kibale forest Camp or Rwenzori View Guest House.

Day 2
Day 2: Chimp trekking and Bigodi nature walk

Wake up early in the morning at around 6:30pm, take breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing on the do’s and the don’ts concerning the chimp trekking. At 8am embark for the forest in search of the chimpanzees. Trekking the chimps can take 2 to 4 hours but after meeting these primates, trekkers are only given one hour to interact with them through photo taking, watching their behaviors among other activities.

As you trek chimps in kibale forest you will definitely encounter other primates like the baboons, black and white colobus, grey check mangebey, olive money among other species.

For bird lovers, this park has over 380 bird species making it an undoubtable birding site besides the core chimp trekking experience. After the trekking, retire to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon embark on a nature walk to Bigodi wetlands which is a bird sanctuary with variety of bird species, butterflies and some primates that inhabit this swampy area.

One of the admirable birds in this swamp is the great blue turaco. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Kyaninga Lodge, Kibale Forest Camp or Rwenzori View guest house

Day 3
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

At breakfast at the lodge, prepare to embark on a transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. This transfer will take about 5 to 6 hours via the Ishasha sector anticipating to have a sight on the tree climbing lions.

Proceed to Bwindi to Buhoma region for lunch and check in at the lodge. In the evening, take the adventure to Batwa community to have a taste of the real life story of the Pygmies when they were in the forest. After this experience, retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mahogany Springs Lodge, Bwindi Haven Lodge or Buhoma community campsite

Day 4
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking

Wake up early in the morning, take breakfast and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park headquarters for briefing on how to trek the gorillas. This is an exciting opportunity to penetrate the jungle in search of the majestic mountain gorillas.

The activity is remarkable and exciting taking about 2 to 6 hours trekking through the steep rocks, climbing up and down which also is a tiresome adventure before landing a sight on the gorillas is camouflaging in the dense green vegetation.

After meeting the giant apes, trekkers are only given one hour to interact with the gorillas. After the adventurous activity of gorilla trekking, retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs Lodge, Bwindi Haven Lodge or Buhoma community campsite.

Day 5
Day 5: Transfer to Kampala

Have breakfast at your leisure and embark on a transfer to Kampala through the spectacular stunning rolling hills of Kigezi, well known as the “Switzerland of Africa”. This is about 8 to 10 hours’ drive to Kampala.

The journey includes an en-route lunch in Mbarara at Igongo cultural center and proceed to the crossing Equator at Kayabwe for photography and buying souvenirs in craft shops, then continue to Kampala where the drop off will be the hotel or the airport depending on the schedule.
